Should I learn Website design?….Why even bother to learn how to design a website, is it worth it?…
…These are fair questions for any modern entrepreneur to ask themselves, and if you have ever wanted to set up your own online business, you will no doubt have already asked yourself if it’s even worth investing the time to learn how to build your own website, or if you should just pay someone else to build your website for you.
Why ALL entrepreneurs should learn website designing skills
This article is about why you should not even think about calling yourself an internet entrepreneur if you don’t have even the most basic knowledge of how to go about designing a website for and buy yourself.
We as a company believe what everyone in today’s modern internet-obsessed society, should possess the skills necessary to be able to design, build and set up their own website.
In this article, we aim to delve a bit deeper into the reasons behind this bold statement, so let’s get going…
1. It’s NOWHERE near as difficult as it used to be!
How you used to have to build websites
Take it from me, as someone with over 15+ years worth of Website Design and Development experience……
I can remember back to the days when building a website was a real headache, and an absolute chore, (not to mention a complete bore too!). Back then, if you wanted to Build your own website, you would first have had to mess around with learning CSS. Then you would have had to get better acquainted with HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) – and it was only at this point that you would be able to combine your CSS + HTML knowledge together to be able to put together your own website – and after many hours invested, it would still probably look as if some kid had designed it in their bedroom.
How websites are built nowadays
So you’ve learnt how difficult building a website from scratch used to be, but ahhhh, lucky for you we are now in 2017, and things have changed in a big way. We luckily now have CMS (Content Management System) based platforms that such as WordPress
2. You won’t have to rely on other people
It can be so frustrating when you have to rely on other people just to make the most basic of changes to your website for you; especially very busy website designers!
Say imagine for a moment that you needed to change/edit just a section of text, or replace an image on your website, you would normally have to try to explain to your web designer what exact changes you’d like to be made.
3. You’ll save money
One thing is for sure…. if you do choose to learn how to build, or at least edit your own website, then you will definitely end up saving yourself a lot of money in the longer run.
No more needing to pay expensive web designers to make the smallest of changes to your website. With the average web designer charging upwards of $20 per hour (and some charging this per single edit that they make to your website), you are set to save yourself so much money just by learning how to complete the web editing basics yourself.
4. It’s so easy to learn
As previously mentioned, the advent of CMS website editing platforms means that is is now so easy to learn how to build and edit your own website as the aforementioned platforms already come with extensive support forums, YouTube Videos and manuals that will take you step-by-step through all you could ever want to know.
5. There is no excuse
This last reason for learning how to build your own website is kinda just stating the obvious really.
You should know how to build your own website just because you can. There is so much information, training, and learning material out there now that can teach you all you could ever need to know that the real question would be ‘why wouldn’t you?’.
If you refuse to learn how to design one, at least learn how to edit a website!…
If you absolutely insist on never learning how to create your own website, you have at least learn basic website editing skills. You will then know where you need to go when you want to edit content, you will have your website administration area login details – and you will understand how to go about editing then publishing the changes that you’d like.
At the end of the day, whether or not you choose to learn how to design your own website, or you prefer to forever pay someone else to do it for you, it’s your choice. But based on the examples we have looked at in this article… I hope you will agree that learning how to build (or at least edit) your own website is the way that every entrepreneur will be able to fully take charge of their own online business.
